Why can’t some Conservatives realize that energy independence is only achievable with green energy?

C.S. asked:

The internal combustion engine keeps us linked with Saudi Arabia. So, why do anything to oppose getting off of gasoline. There is no way that domestic sources, even drilling everywhere we can, would be able to sustain U.S. energy needs for the next 20 years.

Let’s break the addiction now.

  1. Proud Tree Hugging Liberal! Lola says:

because this simple fact is too complex for them to grasp

  2. Love Canada. says:

You need oil while your looking for better

  3. Buttface McPoops says:

I’d imagine that there are also some Liberals and moderates who also wouldn’t agree with that.

  4. Shovel Ready says:

Not true. The US has enormous fossil fuel resources that idiots refuse to let us tap. Expansion of nuclear power is another thing they work to prevent. Green energy is mostly a scam - most of it will never come to fruition.

  5. Tom says:

It is not only conservatives who don’t do anything to be energy independent, it is liberals as well. Every single President since the 1970’s has said that they were going to become energy independent and nothing has happened. Also, Obama has already broke numerous campaign promises, so I would not hold my breath over Obama making the US energy independent either.

Also, liberals freak out anytime talk of building a nuclear plant is brought up. Both sides are the problem, not just conservatives.

  6. Vajradharma says:

    It would certainly help things..

  7. Patrick G says:

Why don’t some liberals realize that we can produce our own oil here at home?

  8. ANTI-SOCIAList says:

Because most of us know that Global warming is a hoax. We want to DRILL HERE! Build nuclear = like France DOES! Scientist have said 1000 years ago it had warmer sun spots on earth than we do now- its just a cycle!!! There is NO PROOF for Global Warming and they want to CHANGE our lifes over a THEORY! Its BS!

Obama is about to bankrupt the Coal industry- by taxing them to death! We get 1/2 our energy from COAL! The guy is nuts!

  9. Fishguy says:

Why can’t followers of the church of green understand that there is no single source of energy that carries nearly the bang that petroleum carries (with the exception of nuclear, but you people don’t want that either) and if you got rid of the internal combustion engine today, you couldn’t build enough wind mills or solar panels to even cover a small fraction of the energy needs required.

  10. Not an Obamoron says:

why is this a conservative question? Dems and Libs are the ones that block nuclear facilities when they are brought up. They originated the not in my back yard sediment.

  11. Jay S says:

I am not willing to pay the equivalent of $8 a gallon gasoline. I’m all for green energy without subsidies (taxpayer money from me because that money I make is supposed to support my wife and two kids) if it’s CHEAPER. Duhhh…..

  12. Reason says:

I say that there is over 250 billion barrels under our OWN land that proves you wrong.

It is NOT the engine that keeps us tied to Saudi Oil.

It’s Democratic environmental policy that keeps us tied to Saudi Oil

  13. Buck Fush says:

    Two words: Big Oil.

  14. jiminjersey says:

The technology does not exist. Right now it is too expensive. Do some research Stop repeating liberal talking points. you look like a fool.

  15. Spock (rhp) says:

your “green” energy production is currently 1/2 of 1 percent of America’s total energy needs. Current yearly additions of more “green” energy run something like 1/10th of 1 percent of our needs.

It follows that even if we could triple annual additions, that “green” energy will not and can not even supply the annual increases in America’s energy consumption caused by growing population and offering a better way of life to everyone.

Therefore, your program amounts to a forced recession for the majority — a recession that will last for decades.

It is time for you to get real

The only even medium term solution [medium term = 15 years] is for America to produce more energy from carbon based sources here at home. Yes we can drill and mine and burn here at home. Oil, natural gas, and coal can be extracted and burned right here.

There are even high paying jobs, which some Americans could sure use, in drilling, mining, refining, transportation, and power plant construction.

Beyond 15 years, the effective almost no pollution energy source that actually works at reasonable costs is nuclear power using fuel recycling. France and Japan already recycle nuclear fuel — thus reducing the volume of highly radioactive waste by 95% or more.

“break the addiction” — this is the second largest hoax in America — right after human caused global warming.

While you have a perfect right to reduce your energy consumption as much as you want — I will fight if you try to force me to cut mine, or if you try to force my grandchildren into poverty to support your unproven and untestable hypotheses.

    you are warned.

  16. Earth Needs Oil says:

Coal and natural gas are not considered ‘green’ We have plenty of both.

Internal combustion engines can run on either.

    Earth Needs Oil

  17. no kool aid please says:

i’m with that. all you greenins go to bicycles or tofu powered vehicles. and leave me alone to drive my 455 CID pavement ripper. and I can get my little bit of oil anf gas from right here.

  18. bi-polar-itical says:

how about we ease into it versus cold turkey. a recent report said that for every 1 green job created, 2.2 traditional jobs will be lost. i agree that we need to change course, but it will take years and should not shoved down our throats, particularly in dealing with cap and trade. it will double the electric bill for your home and cost jobs. it needs to be thought out, long term, and have a timely transition.

  19. Wake up! says:

Don’t get me wrong. I want to see us become energy independent as much as the next guy, but green energy alone will not do it. The technology doesn’t exist yet that would allow us to meet all of our energy needs from green sources alone. If we want to become energy independent, along with green technology, we are going to have to take advantage of our coal to oil tech, our natural gas reserves, our oil supplies and we are going to have to start building nuclear power plants. As green energy tech is invented and as it becomes more efficient, we can slowly switch over to those methods, but in the mean time, we have to be sure that we have stable energy production methods, without having to rely on other nations.

  20. kathy_is_a_nurse says:

Who OPPOSES getting off gasoline? That’s a ridiculous statement. You won’t see a single conservative oppose green energy WHEN it becomes efficient, affordable, and there is an infra-structure in place to support it’s use everywhere.

But that isn’t going to happen overnight. Until then, we will need fossil fuels, because that is what will sustain us. It’s STUPID to not go after what we know exists and is needed until the technology exists to replace it.

I don’t understand how you could question that.

  21. budleit2 says:

Well true conservatives are all for it. We just want it done by free enterprise not government spending trillions of dollars on it. I am actually looking to purchase a windmill. I am all for conservation. There is a reason why conservative and conservation are similar. conservatives want to conserve. We just don’t want the insane spending of the government to do it.

  22. Lou G says:

The game is as simple and as old as the world. If you want to reign, divide. Since ever the real alternative to oil is nuclear power. Nuclear power, despite of “green” oppositions, is clean power. For sure, petrol industry and oligarchs like Rockefeller finance the greens to oppose to nuclear and we can say that “it works”. Nuclear power rings the bell of death for oil power and this is the last thing “the gang” wants.
Now, the real alternative is green power, but green power has 2 disadvantages. First it is so expensive that people stick to the good ol’ oil.
Second, do you think it is defendable that you need 52 kg of corn and around 850 liters of water to make one liter of bio-fuel for your car while you could feed one child in poor countries for 1 years with that same 52 kg and imagine how many people on this globe are without clean water. All in all you will burn 300 kg of corn on every 60 miles.
Imagine that all diversified fields around you will disappear and where ever you go there is corn, soy, canola in mono cultures, best with gmo crops from Monsanto.
A defendable alternative is wind energy, tidal energy, solar power. But here again, manufacture and parts depend on petrochemical industries and don’t worry, oil popes will not do anything to make you use anything else then …petrol. When you look what is contained in a windmill, the cost of the parts is peanuts, but, try to buy one, you’ll see what they ask for and how many stones and rocks you’ll find on your way to get one legally operative. Some people in Europe, mainly in France where experimenting to operate cars with Geert Pantone systems. It burns half of the petrol normally used and it has 0 Co in exhaust gases. Right away the government refused to admit such cars to technical control and insurance companies said they refuse to pay for any accident where such cars are implied. So all you can do is whistle the funeral march from Chopin and stick to what “they” want you to use and that’s …petrol.
Conservatives are probably the last people who will push us towards green energy. If they where doing it, they stopped to be conservative.
Between what they make you believe, what is possible and what is affordable are worlds of difference. The treats in a system are only found once they are in place and work. If we consider the dangers and
pollution of a nuclear plant, it’s peanuts compared to the whole world in canola or corn yellow. Radioactive stuff comes out of our underground, so bring it back there. Technology is safe, many reactors have proven that. Closed reactors can be disassembled and residue buried as well, so where is the problem. The only one is petrol industry. They hold in there drawers every invention and will buy in future every invention that can make us independent from petrol.
So let conservatives talk and continue dreaming about “green power”.
And, concerning the Saudis, they are the most westernized of all muslims and just like the other petrol producing countries they are part of the game. There part in the world of petrol is not as big as they make you believe. There is more petrol spread over the world in non-muslim countries then in muslim ones and, where ever there is some, it’s $$$ only. At this moment, they try to paint the world green but in reality it will stay black for much more time then you will live.
Petrol is not a fossile product in the way they tell you and it will not stop flowing as they say. All this is made to keep you in panic and justify the price you pay for. Petrol is a residue of the inner combustion of our planet and it will still flow in millions of years. At the depth they take it out, there has never grown any tree, not even millions of years ago.
Remember, only those that believe will be sanctified. Amen
